Human Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of people through force, fraud, or deception, with the aim of exploiting them for profit. Men, women, and children of all ages and from all backgrounds can become victims of this crime, which occurs in every region of the world. The traffickers often use violence or fraudulent employment agencies and fake promises of education and job opportunities to trick and coerce their victims. According to the Trafficking in Persons Report produced by the State Department, approximately 27 million men, women & children are victims of some form of human trafficking. Human trafficking happens when adults & children are extorted to work or provide services using force, fraud, or coercion and it includes labor and sex trafficking. A U.S. Justice Department study found that 83% of sex trafficking victims identified in the U.S. were American citizens. Human trafficking ranks as the fastest growing & second largest criminal enterprise in the world and generates approximately $150.2 billion worldwide. Drought and conflict have left record numbers of people in the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions in dire need of aid, with women and children facing the brunt of the crises. The world must act now to avert further suffering. Millions of people are facing humanitarian catastrophe as drought continues to grip the Horn of Africa. The crisis is compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing conflict, swarms of desert locusts, and surging food prices due to the war in Ukraine. Over 14 million people across Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya are already on the verge of starvation—about half of them children. This number will rise to 20 million by mid-2022 if the rains continue to fail, prices continue to rise, and world leaders don’t boost aid funding to meet the needs of people in crisis. On February 24, Russia deployed its military into two regions of eastern Ukraine held by pro-Russian separatists in an attack on Ukraine. War has been steadily waging over the last eight years leaving more than 850,000 people internally displaced and almost 3 million people in need of humanitarian aid. The escalation in conflict will have devastating consequences for the civilian population in Ukraine and humanitarian needs are expected to rise. Today’s Russian attack on Ukraine raises the specter of major civilian harm and massive displacement.War would further devastate Ukraine’s already weakened infrastructure. The country’s health system, reeling from COVID-19, is fragile, and its economy has declined drastically. Food and fuel shortages would be acute, public services rendered nonfunctioning. Widespread use of landmines and explosive ordinance could kill or maim thousands. Solidariedade na Mokili has brought together families and young people in a collective effort to prevent girls from marrying too young and motivate a sustained behavior change towards girls in the community with special reference to stopping child marriage and continuing school education

Yemen is one of the most food-insecure countries in the world. Long before the conflict began, child malnutrition was widespread. More than 85,000 children have died as a result of the famine as of 2018. The following month, a report by Save the Children estimated that 85,000 children under the age of five have died from starvation and malnutrition. Millions of children in Yemen are at risk of starvation amid the coronavirus pandemic, which is tipping the war-torn nation into further devastation, the United Nations warned, appealing for nearly $500m in urgent humanitarian assistance. Another 6,600 children under the age of five could also die from preventable causes, as the pandemic has weakened the country’s struggling healthcare system and disrupted services. This project gives money to pregnant women and women with children under the age of five, this money to buy food and teaches them about child nutrition. Eight people, many of them women of Asian descent, were killed Tuesday evening in shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors and a suspect is in custody, law-enforcement officials said. Crimes targeting Asian Americans have risen dramatically since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 3,800 instances of discrimination against Asians in the past year. The actual number could be much higher. Many aren't aware of all the racist violent hate crimes against Asians in the United States that have spiked recently due to lack of news coverage . Shooting in Atlanta was another heartbreaking attack on innocent women and men .We cannot stay silent in the face of racial injustice whether it is within our own communities or outside of them. When Solidariedade Na Mokili team met to discuss the tragedy of injustice overtaking America, these were the words ( Love. Pain. Solidarity. Fear. Togetherness. Frustration. Disappointment. Anger. Betrayal. Trust. Despondency. Hope. Action ) we spoke and the scope of our emotions. But one thing was appallingly clear: George Floyd’s inexcusable death was a spark applied to a field that has burst into flame. And the words “I can’t breathe,” ignored by the Minneapolis police officers, have deep meaning to thousands upon thousands of Black people and their allies. We cannot stay silent in the face of racial injustice whether it is within our own communities or outside of them. No one should feel threatened or afraid because of the color of their skin, or who they are, or who they choose to be. We all have a responsibility to end discrimination and intolerance — and to seek justice, reconciliation, and healing. Heavy rains brought deadly floods to northern India on the weekend as the country’s capital marked its wettest July day in more than 40 years, according to authorities and local reports. The rains triggered flash floods and landslides, resulting in the deaths of at least 22 people, mainly in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. Discrimination is not only ethically unacceptable, but it also entails substantial economic and social costs. Anti-LGBT discrimination hinders economic development through a wide range of channels. It causes lower investment in human capital due to LGBT-phobic bullying at school and poor returns, it reduces economic output by excluding LGBT talents from the labor market, it undermines productivity by impairing LGBT people’s mental health, it erodes public finances through significant spending on social and health services to address the consequences of LGBT people’s marginalization, etc. Anti-LGBT discrimination is also detrimental to social cohesion through the persistence of restrictive gender norms that impede gender equality more broadly speaking and, hence, the expansion of social and economic roles, especially for women. As I'm sure many are aware there was an attack on the Moore County, NC Power Grid Saturday leaving 48,000 people without power for 5 days so far, some are still waiting. While some of us are blessed with employers that will continue to pay us (Thank you Cisco!) and money to replace all the food they had to throw away, many are not. I'm hoping the Cisco Community can help those in our Moore County who are struggling get back on their feet.

After a recent Board meeting, I and the rest of the parents at Saint Augustine Public Montessori School realized the financial crisis that our school is facing. There is nothing left to cut from expenses, as our school has been operating with a very tight budget this year. We have been working with the St. Johns County school district to keep our Correction Action Plan (CAP) in place. We are out of time and we must find the cash flow needed to keep our doors open. As a parent of a child in this school, I see how dedicated both the staff and the attending families are to making the small public montessori school a destination for learning in our community I, and all the parents involved, love sending our kids to SAPMS and would be heartbroken to have to shut down. There are more than 5,000 unaccompanied children in US Customs and Border Protection custody, according to documents obtained by CNN, up from 4,500 children days earlier. According to data collected by the Pew Research Center, 18,945 migrants were apprehended at the border in January and February, an increase of 168 percent. And 9,297 unaccompanied minors were apprehended at the border, a 63 percent increase. The growing number of unaccompanied children at the border is adding greater stress to the system and has overwhelmed resources, which had already been strained as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Children's rights continue to be violated at the border. Jackson, Mississippi, Is Facing an Emergency Water Shortage. The immediate cause of the current water shortage are the floods that began to overwhelm the Pearl River weeks ago . These floods caused issues at local water-treatment plants, essentially shutting them down. After several days without water, the National Guard was deployed last week and lines for water at emergency distribution centers formed around the capital city.
