Catastrophic wildfires have scorched over 1 million acres in the Texas Panhandle. Homes, barns, fences and livestock have been lost. In an effort to help farmers and ranchers who have been affected by the fires, Texas Farm Bureau established the Texas Panhandle Wildfire Relief Fund. 100% of all donations received go directly to farmers and ranchers impacted by the fires.

The "Life Portrait Foundation" (Stichting Levensportet) gives terminally ill people the opportunity to record their life stories in a professional video portrait free of charge. As a valuable memory for their loved ones. Creating such a video portrait costs ~450 euro to make. After reading about this organization in an Instagram post, it made sense to request adding this organization to the Brightfunds platform.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter comprise the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 45 million pounds of food, and the Food Bank serves, on average, 400,000 people per month in San Diego County

ISKCON of Silicon Valley has formed a non profit, nonsectarian charitable food distribution program named “Free Veg Meals For All”. We also work with young people by providing career coaching, guidance and specialized trainings. Our desire is to help them realize their potential and become motivated to grow in those areas.

How to donate: We are collecting non-perishable food items in our offices or you can make a monetary donation directly via Bright Funds. A fund has been created in Bright Funds for Feeding America, or you can donate to a local food pantry of your choice. If you aren’t near an office, but would still like to participate, items can be taken to a local food pantry. After donations have been made, send a photo of the items or the monetary donation receipt to your selected territory’s intern listed below. How scoring works: • 1 point = $1 (or one item) • Gift matching contributions via Bright Funds will not count toward the total, but employees with gift matching left for 2023 are encouraged to match their donation • If you are not officially assigned to a territory, you can select whichever one you’d like to support in the competition • Regardless of how you donate, send an email that includes the number of items or dollar amount you donated to the intern for the territory you wish to contribute to. StepUp Wilmington was founded as Phoenix Employment Ministry in 2003 by the Rev. Don Skinner, who created a one of a kind job program in Wilmington, NC. During our initial decade of work, we hosted monthly “Orientations” to train and partner with 10 job seekers a month. In 2013, we began partnering with one of the leading job placement organizations in NC, StepUp Ministry in Raleigh. Through this collaboration came stronger programming, an emphasis on data tracking, increased capacity and a clearer vision of what could be achieved in Wilmington. In 2015, Phoenix Employment Ministry integrated the operations of Hometown Hires, a program of the United Way founded by Ben David and Chip Mahan, becoming Phoenix Hometown Hires. For the first time in the organization’s history 100 jobs were placed in a single year, 104 to be exact. Over the next year we placed 171 jobs, setting the bar even higher. In January 2018 Phoenix Hometown Hires changed its name to StepUp Wilmington to reflect its commitment to collaboration with StepUp NC, and set a four year goal to place 1,000 new jobs by 2022. Today, StepUp Wilmington continues the mission of its founders, though on a much greater scale and with better tools, providing employment opportunities, training and hope to men and women throughout the Cape Fear region.

WHY IT MATTERS When COVID-19 hit the St. Louis region in 2020, 2-1-1 received more than 192,000 requests for assistance, a 54% increase compared to 2019. 2-1-1 helped more than 8,100 people keep food on the table, assisted 17,277 people in accessing healthcare and connected more than 4,100 people to transportation. 2-1-1 also partnered with local agencies to create a COVID-19 hotline, which provided up-to-date information about testing, re-opening guidelines, and much more to the nearly 13,899 people who called. 2-1-1 provides critical help, from mental health supports to food and housing assistance to transportation and more, connecting local people to resources needed to thrive. With a goal of being accessible to each caller in the way that works best for them, 2-1-1 launched texting capabilities this past June, in addition to being available through phone, online chat and mobile app, with multilingual service for up to 250 different languages. United Way 2-1-1 works hard on its own to create partnerships that will ultimately change lives of those in need, but it still needs your backing to continue supporting the community 24/7. Four people were killed and 28 others injured when a mass shooting broke out at a crowded Sweet 16 birthday party in rural Dadeville, Alabama, on Saturday night, authorities said. The recent mass shooting in Alabama has left many people devastated and heartbroken. However, in response to this tragedy, a fund has been set up to provide assistance and support to the families affected by this senseless act of violence. The fund has been established by Solidariedade Na Mokili, in partnership with other local organizations, and aims to provide financial assistance to the families of the victims, as well as to support the ongoing work of law enforcement in investigating and preventing such tragedies in the future. The fund has already received an outpouring of support from people all over the country who are looking for ways to help those affected by this tragedy.
