LifeConnections Fitness Center, Human Resources, Executive Leadership, and Community Relations presents the first annual 5K Race. This event was started to provide an activity for employees to get moving while also working to raise funds for local charities. This fun event includes a 5K Rivalry Fun Run or walk, music and activities. The Rivalry Run 5K offers runners, walkers, and college fans a chance to step up and represent their favorite sports teams! The entire event is about fitness, fun, sportsmanship, and celebration of fans and college rivalries. Employees, contractors, friends and family are invited to harness the Cisco spirit and celebrate rivalry traditions by participating in the 5K – by supporting the community through the Be the Bridge Campaign. This year we have chosen to raise funds for the YMCA of the North Shore, Boston Self Help Center, Special Olympics Massachusetts, and Greater Boston Food Bank. The End Hunger Fund focuses on addressing food insecurity – a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. This fund is comprised of three national charities – FEEDING AMERICA, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization; NO KID HUNGRY, dedicated to eradicating child hunger through schools breakfast, as well as afterschool and summer meals for kids; and MEALS ON WHEELS AMERICA dedicated to serving the more than 10 million vulnerable seniors across the country. Bringing this issue home, also included is THE GREATER BOSTON FOOD BANK, providing meals to people in the communities that many of us live in. An epidemic in its own right according to some, the economic impact of COVID-19 has made the situation even more dire, millions of Americans are out of work, and hunger, one of our nation’s most urgent problems, has grown even worse. Food insecurity affects so many Americans and by donating to this fund which is matched by the VMware Foundation you will make a difference to many people.

We recognize that each community will have their own set of challenges in light of the Coronavirus. Bright Funds Foundation has established the 2020 Boston Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund to address the unique needs of the Boston community. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. Given the ever-changing nature of this pandemic and widespread impact, the composition of the nonprofits in this Fund will evolve.

However, some of us are in stable financial situations and don't need that money now. We have the opportunity to redirect these funds in order to support members of our community who may not be so fortunate.
