IEi’s mission is to strengthen and empower Chicago’s Greater Englewood community through teaching local youth and their families healthy living, environmental awareness, and positive communication skills. Since 1997, IEi has been providing comprehensive community programming and support services for Greater Englewood, a predominantly Black neighborhood (comprising Englewood and West Englewood) which has been systemically divested from for generations. The lack of access to quality employment, education, and nutrition has resulted in an increase in community difficulties like poverty, violence, shorter life expectancies, and high school dropout rates. IEi works diligently to overcome these challenges and empower our neighbors to live healthy, safe, and productive lives.
