Cyclone Amphan + COVID-19 Fundraiser for West Bengal & Odisha
Rural and coastal communities in West Bengal and Odisha have already been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis and ensuing Government lockdown. Now, in the last 24+ hours, another existential threat has emerged in the region in the form of Cyclone Amphan - one of the strongest cyclones to hit the subcontinent in recent times. NEARLY 30 MILLION people are expected to be affected by this cyclone. The impact of Amphan has been amplified due to the COVID-19 lockdown, with many families unable to evacuate in advance and crucial relief efforts delayed. We are receiving regular updates from ground-zero by Asha projects such as Mukti, based in Purbasridharpur (https://ashanet.org/project/?pid=788). The latest communications from Mukti report wind speeds of 100-160kmph battering houses filled with families, and widespread flooding destroying schools & crops, and causing road blockages. Additionally, Mukti reports that flood relief centers are presently packed, and the threat of a COVID-19 epidemic breaking out in these centers is extremely high at the moment. Asha for Education supports 36 projects, predominantly in rural areas, across West Bengal and Odisha. Our educational projects act as linchpins in the communities that they serve, and at this crucial time are local nodes for mobilizing emergency supplies and support. Please help Asha support Amphan + COVID-19 relief efforts for our projects in West Bengal and Odisha at this critical time. Your donation directly helps our projects provide relief to these local communities facing devastation.

Coronavirus relief in India | 2nd wave Fund
The second wave of COVID is devastating India. Ahmednagar District, where Snehalaya operates is one of the worst-hit with no beds, oxygen, or medicines available to our largely rural population. We are pressuring authorities to improve the situation while also operating our own medical facilities & offering vital support to as many of the 150,000 plus in our district who have tested positive with COVID. Since March 2021 a flood of positive cases has overburdened medical facilities throughout our district and in April we were in the top ten worst-affected districts in India with over 1,000 new cases a day. With high demand & limited medical facilities available for COVID patients it is the poorest in society who are hardest hit. Cases of trafficking, child marriage, and domestic violence are also increasing & access to support is limited by lockdowns. Our 100-bed hospital is currently treating around 3000 COVID patients a day & a 150-bed COVID Care Center has free medical & quarantine facilities for asymptomatic patients & those with mild to moderate symptoms. Outreach work, ambulance services, community radio, and 24/7 helplines are helping us reach 5 million people, including women and children who are victims of the shadow pandemic causing increased domestic violence, child marriage & trafficking cases. Potential Long Term Impact By supporting the most vulnerable groups with medical support during the current second wave we will improve their chances of surviving the pandemic crisis and reduce the number of people requiring our help once the crisis ends. We will also provide women and children with the help and services they need right now and will also help them to rebuild their lives once the pandemic has been contained. Girl Child Education in India Fund

Girl Child Education in India Fund
Reports show that 30% of girls from low-income families in India will never return after the closure of many schools in India, hindering all the progress made throughout the past decade. As a result, they're left vulnerable to abuse, have no access to education, and face period poverty. Asha's SV chapter is focusing on girl children through its projects invested in promoting hygiene and sanitation, promoting female rights, and providing vocational training. Some girl child-related projects we support include: Prayas Pratirodh Sansthan: this project provides education to tribal girls who have no access to education otherwise, while also acting as a bridge to enroll girls into formal schools. Door Step Schools: This project provides education to the children of slum dwellers, migrants/laborers, pavement dwellers, and other underprivileged families. As part of the curriculum, the school focuses and teaching girls about female health and hygiene which includes necessary information about the changes that occur during puberty. Fellowship Aheli Chowdhury: This project focuses on teaching girls of marginalized and minority communities employability skills such as reading and writing English, computer operations, and job readiness in order to help them secure a job and become financially independent. The project has also successfully helped place the girls they trained into excellent jobs.
