Southern California Wildfire Response and Recovery Fund

About

On Wednesday December 6th, 2017 fires raged throughout the Los Angeles and Ventura area. To support the thousands of residents who have fled their homes due to the wildfires, we have established the Southern California Wildfire Response and Recovery Fund. This fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Your Donation Supports

Direct Relief

Direct Relief is responding to communities impacted by the spate of wildfires across Southern California this week, and continues to deliver respiratory supplies and emergency medicines to facilities caring for patients in those communities. Direct Relief is coordinating its response to that fire with partner healthcare clinics in Ventura County, including the Ventura County Public Health Department, the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County, Clinicas del Camino Real, the Nat and other agencies.

Humane Society of Ventura County

The Humane Society of Ventura County is taking animals from evacuees and the shelter is open 24 hours. The Humane Society of Ventura County is working to care for more than 100 animals that it has taken in since the fires. They estimate they have taken in an additional 130 animals at this time, and are currently caring for over 220 animals at their facility in Ojai.

The Salvation Army - Southern Territory

The Salvation Army has been on the scene from almost the beginning and as the fires have escalated so has The Salvation Army’s response. The Salvation Army is handling the feeding of the two main evacuation centers for the Thomas fire at the Ventura County Fairgrounds and Nordhoff High School in Ojai. Combined, there are currently 700 evacuees at these sites and The Salvation Army has committed its resources to feed and provide other comforts to these fire survivors for as long as necessary.

California Community Foundation

The CCF Wildfire Relief Fund supports intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for major California wildfires, as well as preparedness efforts. Grants from the Wildfire Relief Fund have supported those who were displaced or lost housing, belongings and/or employment, or suffered physical or mental health problems; helped to rebuild homes; provided case management services, basic needs assistance, mental health services and financial assistance; upgraded 2-1-1 phone and information system; assisted burn victims with follow-up medical care and supplies; provided respiratory equipment and information to people with lung disease; educated homeowners about green rebuilding; and provided disaster preparedness information.

American National Red Cross

The American Red Cross is providing safe shelter and support in California after several fast-moving wildfires forced thousands of people from their homes across the southern part of California. In addition to providing shelter and food, the Red Cross is moving additional disaster workers, cots, blankets and emergency supplies to the affected counties. Red Cross volunteers are working to ensure that everyone – including children, the elderly, and those with special needs – get the best possible help during this challenging time. The Red Cross is also working closely with government and community partners to coordinate relief efforts.
