Compton Community Fund

About

These are some of the incredible non-profits in Compton that we have had an opportunity to meet as we've started to build our next farm. They are all doing impactful work in Compton and are excited about Plenty joining their community, so let's show them some support!

Alma Backyard Farms

Alma Backyard Farms has a community garden on an old softball field on the property of a church and school, where they grow food that they distribute throughout the community, educate at-risk children and youth on urban gardening and the importance of local food, and provide gainful employment to formerly incarcerated individuals to help them become self-sufficient.

Compton Unified School District Education Foundation Inc

In Compton, 85% of children come from low-income families that do not have the resources to provide the same educational opportunities available to children in higher income communities. The mission of the Compton Education Foundation is to provide access to high quality opportunities in STEAM education to all students of the Compton Unified School District.

Shields For Families, Inc.

SHIELDS brings comprehensive services that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles. They promote family reunification and support families remaining intact in the community through services like their job re-entry programs for formerly incarcerated individuals, housing assistance, mental health support, and substance-abuse treatment.

Compton Junior Equestrians

Compton Junior Equestrians was created in partnership witht he Compton Cowboys to provide a safe haven for at-risk youth in Compton. Through horseback riding, they teach youth discipline, leadership, and self-esteem. Horseback riding naturally helps build coping mechanisms for the youth, and, in turn, youth gain respect for animals, nature, and each other, building lifelong bonds.

The Compton Initiative

Compton Initiative is committed to bringing hope and restoration to Compton through quarterly beautification projects, like mural painting, home painting, trash pick up, and community gardening. The Plenty team has volunteered with them in the past.
