California Fire Response and Recovery Fund

About

On the morning of Wednesday November 7th, 2018, the most destructive wildfire in California modern history struck the Northern California region of Butte County. This fire is accompanied by fires burning in Southern California as well. Bright Funds has established the California Fire Response and Recovery Fund to support the communities impacted by these fires. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing emergency response in the region. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are providing immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of the nonprofits in this Fund are subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Butte Humane Society

Butte Humane Society has opened the Pet Food and Supply Pantry to help displaced pet owners as well as those who have taken in family and friends with pets. The pantry will be available to anyone affected by the fire and in need of food and supplies for their pets. During the evacuations they have helped find foster families for shelter cats and dogs.

The Salvation Army - Southern Territory

The Salvation Army has deployed Emergency Disaster Service teams to multiple locations in and around Butte County. Their teams are providing three meals a day, snacks, drinks, essential items and emotional and spiritual care to evacuees and first responders. For as long as necessary, they will be providing relief and assistance to those affected. Through Sunday, nearly 13,000 meals were served to evacuees and first responders from all of the feeding sites.

American National Red Cross

The American Red Cross is providing sheltering for a couple thousand people and relief services for nearly five thousand – including feeding, mental/health support, relief supplies and more in response to these wildfires. They've delivered shelter supplies for over 7,000 people (including special equipment to support over 1,000 people with access and functional needs)—these resources are aimed at ensuring we’re ready throughout California for the current responses and immediate future threats. They've also begun shipping emergency supplies for distribution in the community to serve over 15,000 households once authorities determine it’s safe for residents to re-enter—these supplies include sifters, personal protective equipment, N95 respiratory masks, rakes, shovels, work gloves, tarps, and other resources specifically intended to support our clients’ recovery from wildfires.

Direct Relief

On Thursday night, Direct Relief staff packed eight pallets of N-95 respiratory masks, as well as over-the-counter prescriptions. Inhalers, nebulizers and eye-wash solution, as well as chronic medications and other resources needed to care for evacuees, were all shipped out to fire-impacted communities, including those in Ventura County. The organization worked over the weekend, delivering more than 20,000 N-95 respirators, 20 oxygen concentrators and critically needed medicine on Saturday to the Butte County Public Health Department in Oroville, California
