Since September 2017, we’ve had dozens of schools, parents and afterschool programs across the country join our innovative schools program, the People Pipeline. The People Pipeline offers a host of free lesson plans and activities to help students and children learn about the global water crisis and take action with a sense of empathy and global-mindedness.

Following a school where WaterAid is currently working, students become acquainted with kids just like them and observe the transformative power of clean water as WaterAid completes the project, bringing clean water, toilets and hygiene assistance to the students and teachers of the school!

Today we’re sharing some of our favorite People Pipeline participants! If you’re looking for an exciting and engaging end of year project for your students or kids, sign up here today to receive your free mail pack of resources.

The RoboFalcons and TechnoQueens
The RoboFalcons and TecnoQueens are two FIRST Lego Robotics League teams participating in the annual FIRST Lego competition. With this year’s theme being water—the two teams and their coach joined the People Pipeline to learn more about the water crisis.

Based on our lesson plans, the TechnoQueens created a model community and five different types of clean water technologies entirely out of legos! Both teams have raised nearly $3,000 since November and have won top awards at the World Expo.

Their coach and Dad, Rohit Bhatia told WaterAid:

Being part of People Pipeline Program this year has given a very positive dimension to the growth mindset of young boys and girls of RoboFalcons and TechnoQueens. They have been highly influenced around awareness of value of Water in our life and how lack of access to clean water around the world can be so detrimental to growth of communties. It has been very gratifying and at same time great learning experience and proud feeling of having touched someone's life in a positive manner.

BISNY Community Project
8th grade students Douglas and Helen from the British International School teamed up for their Community Project to teach their classmates about the Water Crisis. Both students of Nigerian descent, learning more and giving back to a cause close to home was very important to them both.

Using the People Pipeline resources, they held a Water Week including a school-wide fundraising challenge and a jerrycan lifting challenge. The week culminated with a Walk for Water discussion and demonstration—in which over 40 students from 7th and 8th grade walked over 2 miles to raise awareness for the challenges faced by many people in the developing world.

PS 34 Social Enterprise
Ms. Seuram, a third grade teacher, is using our People Pipeline resources to teach her students about the global water crisis and the many ways in which they can take action to make a difference.

The students are using the interactive poster and lesson plans as they brainstorm ideas for their in-school social enterprise, a chocolate shop called “Chocolate H2O.”

The students will be interviewed and hired for roles such as salesperson, chocolatier, or advertiser. The funds raised from this chocolate shop will be donated to the People Pipeline. Additionally, students will be writing letters to their congressman and other businesses raising awareness of the water crisis in Nicaragua.

As Ms. Seuram of P.S. 34 said:

[The People Pipeline is] teaching our kids they can make a difference no matter how little they are and that they need to pay it forward and make a difference in this world with the talents they have.

No matter who you are and how you’d like to get involved, the People Pipeline has something for you! You can use it purely for the educational resources or you can go a step further and mobilize your students or children to take action for clean water.
