Teaching Matters, Council of Supervisors and Administrators of NYC Partner to Reward Micro-credentials in Culturally Responsive Education

Teaching Matters and the Executive Leadership Institute of The Council of Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) of NYC created the first-ever competency-based micro-credential to recognize growth in culturally responsive education.

Teaching Matters, a leader in the movement to support educators through competency-based professional development using micro-credentials, joined forces with the CSA to recognize principals and assistant principals for evaluating school data and initiating pedagogical shifts that address equity gaps found in their analysis. This powerful partnership builds on the long-standing work of CSA to provide high quality professional learning to its members and demonstrates CSA’s interest in innovative approaches.

Teaching Matters has issued over 1,000 system level micro-credentials since 2015.

“Culturally Responsive Education is a high value approach to addressing equity in schools,” said Teaching Matters’ director of national partnerships Mary Strain. “We are excited to provide high quality professional learning and partner with CSA to support the demonstration of these important practices.”

For 16 years, the Executive Leadership Institute delivered practical, relevant and essential professional development for today’s school leaders. The intent of the various programs is to provide standards-based, results-driven leadership training to help school leaders successfully fulfill their responsibilities as instructional leaders.

“We are excited to partner our Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) with Teaching Matters to provide our members with the highest quality professional development available anywhere in the country” said CSA president Mark Cannizzaro. “We look forward to our members earning this relevant micro-credential and to expanding our presence in this space. This should be the start of a long and productive partnership that will benefit schools and the students we serve.”
