The Jed Foundation

JED is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. We’re partnering with high schools and colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems. We’re equipping teens and young adults with the skills and knowledge to help themselves and each other. We’re encouraging community awareness, understanding and action for young adult mental health.

Hope for Depression Research Foundation

Our mission is two-fold: First and foremost HDRF funds the most innovative neuroscience research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of depression and its related mood disorders bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder and suicide. Our second goal is to raise awareness of depression as a medical illness and to educate the public about the facts of depression. We educate and inform in order to help remove the stigma of depression. ********************************************************************* *********************************************************************

StrongMinds

The mission of StrongMinds is to improve the mental health of African women. We are guided by our unique and ambitious goal to treat two million African women suffering from depression by 2025.

Depression is the most prevalent mental illness in the world. The Centers for Disease Control calculates the number of people suffering from depression at 350 million, and The World Bank considers it “the greatest thief of productive economic life,” with yearly global costs at U.S. $2.5 trillion. Nature magazine stated: “Depression is the biggest blight on human society – bar none.”

Nowhere is that more evident clear than in Africa, where approximately 100 million people suffer from the disease, costing the economy roughly U.S. $5 billion a year. For African women – who are afflicted at twice the rate of men – depression is the number one cause of disability. Yet, due to the lack of investment in mental health services, 85% percent of people suffering from depression in Africa – including 66 million women – have no access to effective treatment.

Fund For The City Of New York Inc

This is a relatively young initiative overseen by deeply experienced child development and legal experts that provide mental health support to families in the child welfare system. The Fund for the City of New York was established by the Ford Foundation in 1968 with the mandate to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers. For over three decades, in partnership with government agencies, nonprofit institutions and foundations, the Fund has developed and helped to implement innovations in policy, programs, practices and technology in order to advance the functioning of government and nonprofit organizations in New York City and beyond.
